2 holistic treatments to deal with Alopecia

In our previous blog, we talked about the difference between alopecia and normal hair loss; also causes, types and symptoms. Today, we want to share with you how Indian head massage and aromatherapy can help you to deal with alopecia.

In a few words, Alopecia is an autoimmune disorder. This means that your cells attack the follicles (where your hair grows), in addition, there is poor blood flow to the area increasing extreme hair loss.

Alopecia can start with spots without hair in your head; however,  in extreme cases you can lose hair all over your body.

How can I avoid alopecia or deal with it?

Your hair grows due to this process: first, it grows from a root at the follicle (which is located under your skin).  Then, the blood circulates all over your head and goes to your follicles supplying your hair root with oxygen and nutrients, which helps your hair grow. For that reason, when there is poor blood flow in the area, your hair starts falling down.

Besides low blood flow (lack of oxygen and nutrients), one of the main causes of alopecia is stress.

In order to deal with alopecia or even prevent it, you can try  holistic approaches such as: Indian head massage and aromatherapy. They reduce the symptoms of the two main causes of this condition and let me tell you why…

1.Indian head massage to deal with alopecia

It is a type of massage focused on the head. A 2016 study showed that head massage can help promote relaxation while boosting your hair health and growth. This is due to, head massage increases blood flow to the area, that is to say that, hair roots will receive more nutrients and oxygen, making your hair thicker.

In order to avoid or even deal with alopecia Indian head massage can help you to:

  • enhance hair growth increasing blood flow to the area.
  • improve lymphatic flow.
  • reduce stress and anxiety (principal triggers of hair loss).
  • replenish your energy levels.

Other benefits of Indian head massage are:

  • improve insomnia symptoms (helps you to sleep better).
  • alleviate neck and shoulder tension, pains and aches.
  • relieve sinusitis symptoms.
  • enhance your brain function (particularly when it comes to memory and focus).
  •  alleviate symptoms of migraines and tension headaches.

2.Aromatherapy  massage for alopecia and hair loss improvement

As your hair grows, it pushes through your skin (to continue growing) and passes by oil glands. The oil your hair gets from the glands is what makes it soft, thicker and shiny. For that reason, when your glands don’t produce enough oil, massages with essential oils (aromatherapy) can be beneficial for some people in order to treat alopecia or common hair loss.

Aromatherapy uses essential oils that are proven to improve your general wellbeing and  also help promote hair growth. Let´s read facts:

  • One study showed that a daily dose of 400 milligrams of pumpkin seed oil(in capsule) during at least 24 weeks resulted in a 40% increase in hair growth.
  • A study made in 4 mice groups, using different treatments showed that the group that used peppermint oil showed the most hair growth. This included a significant increase in dermal thickness, follicle number, and follicle depth.
  • Another study showed  that rosemary oil may be just as effective as minoxidil, the active ingredient in Rogaine, at restoring hair growth.

other essential oils that will help you are:

Lavender:

It can generate the growth of cells and reduce stress. It seems that this oil is able to generate faster hair growth in mice (so, it might help humans too). In addition, it has antimicrobial and antibacterial properties, which can improve your scalp health.

Cedarwood

Cedarwood promotes hair growth and reduces hair loss by balancing your oil-producing glands. It also has antifungal and antibacterial properties, which can treat different conditions that may contribute to dandruff or hair loss.

Important fact!

It was found that the mixture of lavender, rosemary and cedarwood oils  reduce not only hair loss, but most importantly, it helps people with alopecia areata.

In short…

Combining all benefits of Indian head massage and aromatherapy will highly increase the probabilities of hair growth. In addition your hair will grow in a balanced environment, that is to say, better conditions in the follicle, glands and skin of your scalp, producing better quality hair (that depends on each case). These two treatments not only increase hair growth, but also improve your general wellbeing, so why don’t you try them together  or separately, that is up to you!
