What anti-cellulite massage can do for you

As summer is getting close, are also the skirts and short and as many of us the idea of wearing them is not so nice due to the annoying cellulite. But is cellulite an aesthetic matter or can it be dangerous for our health? These and more questions will be answered in this blog.

What is cellulite?

Cellulite is the uneven (dimply), lumpy skin you can notice in some parts of your body. This type of cellulite is not dangerous, but many people concern about the appearance of their skin. The most common areas where cellulite can be seen are:

  • hips,
  • thighs,
  • buttocks,
  • belly,
  • arms,
  • and breast.

In 2009, cellulite was divided in 3 grades according to their characteristics (appearance of the skin). These are the 3 of them:

First grade or mild: the orange peel is not yet observed.

Second grade or moderate: orange peel appears when the skin is compressed.

Third grade or severe: orange peel appears when standing up and is permanent.

How is cellulite formed?

  • cellulite is formed when adipocytes increase in number or volume. Adipocytes are fat cells that, by increasing their size, can also cause compression of the capillaries.
  • there is an alteration in lipogenesis. In other words, the body accumulates more fat  than it uses (lipolysis).
  • there is water retention, it produces swelling due to lack of drainage. As a result, you will notice that orange peel skin.

What causes cellulite?

  • Genetics: Family history of obesity and cellulite.
  • Lack of exercise or sedentary lifestyle.
  • Inadequate diet: excess calories, fat, sodium and processed food.
  • Stress.
  • High alcohol intake.
  • Smoking.
  • Wearing inappropriate clothing such as tight clothing or pretty high heels.
  • Spending long periods of time on your feet.
  • Hormonal factors: High levels of estrogens leading to edema. These changes usually occur with processes such as puberty, pregnancy, menopause, premenstrual period or consumption of contraceptive pills. Therefore, they trigger or worsen cellulite if it already exists.
  • Circulatory disorders.
  • Accumulated toxins.
  • Weight gain.

Can massage get rid of cellulite?

Massage helps you to improve the appearance of your skin, but it is not a cure. In order to maintain these improvements you need to be constant and repeat treatment according to what will be suggested by your therapist.

What is an anti-cellulite massage?

It is a combination of different techniques for example lymphatic drainage (to get rid of toxins); deep tissue massage ( to break and drain adipose tissues); and sculpting techniques (to give your body a better shape).

What does anti-cellulite massage do?

Anti-cellulite massage helps by:

  • draining excess body fluid
  • redistributing fat cells
  • improving circulation
  • plumping up skin

What can I do to avoid cellulite at home?

There are some tips that you can do to prevent cellulite, but remember that your body is different from others; However,  what works on other people may not work on you, but try these and be persistent, that is the key!

  1. Limit caffeine intake.
  2. Avoid states of stress. Nerves, anxiety and constant tension can worsen or trigger a cellulite process.
  3. Don´t smoke. It generates dysfunction in your circulation and prevents the absorption of vitamins.
  4. Have a healthy diet. Avoid the consumption of refined foods that generate a greater amount of waste products or toxic substances, as well as the accumulation of fats.
  5. Reduce or avoid the consumption of alcoholic beverages because they generate toxic substances in the body, affecting the normal functioning of the liver and kidneys.
  6. Increase the consumption of fibers. It helps regulate intestinal transit.
  7. Increase water consumption. It helps to maintain a constant active circulation, oxygenating the blood and facilitating the disposal of toxic substances.
  8. Exercise. It stimulates circulation – both of the cardiovascular system and of the lymphatic system
  9. Avoid tight clothing and high heels.
  10. Incorporate into your routine 1 or 2 weekly sessions of  lymphatic drainage. It drains toxins out of your body and improves circulation.

8.What are the treatments available to reduce cellulite?

The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) has reviewed a number of techniques that may be successful in reducing the appearance of cellulite. However, as we said before, you can use these types of treatments taking into account that it will take several sessions to see changes. In addition, you have to change your lifestyle habits. Some of the most remarkable treatments are:

  • Anti-cellulite massage.

It is a combination of different techniques for example lymphatic drainage (to get rid of toxins); deep tissue massage ( to break and drain adipose tissues); and sculpting techniques (to give your body a better shape). If you are interested in a non-invasive treatment such as this body sculpting Hendersonville, always makes sure to use pros who will treat you well.

  • Wood therapy massage.

It uses shaped wood pieces that allow the therapist to move and drain accumulated adipose tissue. It can be used in all the areas you want to sculpt.

  • Acoustic wave therapy.

It can take several sessions to see results. This technique uses a hand-held device to transmit sound waves.

  • Laser treatment.

The procedure consists in inserting a very small laser probe under your skin. The laser breaks up the fat tissue. This can also thicken the skin by increasing collagen production. When the skin gets thicker it may reduce the appearance of the cellulite.

  • Subcision.

Your dermatologist puts a needle under your skin to break up the connective tissue bands. Results can last 2 years or more.

  • Vacuum-assisted precise tissue release.

It cuts the connective bands under your skin with little blades. As a result,  the tissue underneath moves up to fill the space under the skin, removing the appearance of cellulite. Experts say it may last for 3 years.

  • Carboxytherapy.

It must be performed by a certified professional who will insert carbon dioxide gas under your skin. It is important that you know that it could have side effects like bruising and discomfort after the procedure, but some cellulite might disappear.

  • Endermologie.

It involves a deep massage with a vacuum-like device that lifts the skin.

4 Exercises to get rid of cellulite

Can you really exercise to get rid of cellulite?

For many women cellulite is an aesthetic problem, but for many others it is a health problem because it can be painful. There seems to be so much conflicting information out there. But does exercise have a role? What does work? And why?

If these questions have run through your head, do not fear, you are not alone. Let’s take a look at the role of exercise to get rid of cellulite.

Exercise and cellulite into perspective

First, let’s remember that there is no magic bullet for overcoming cellulite. No, you can’t miraculously reduce spots. And, unfortunately, exercise is not the final answer to the problem.

Remember, it is the fat deposits under the skin that give cellulite its distinctive look. The good news is that exercise, like using the best elliptical on a regular basis, helps reducing the unsightly appearance of cellulite. Not only because it can help to firm the muscle under the skin, but also it has a key role in boosting circulation.

However, exercise does have an important role in reducing cellulite and also in helping to manage the unsightly appearance. Take into account that for best results exercise should be part of a complete routine in order to get better outcomes. Some of the most important factors in this routine are:

  • Nutrition: have a healthy diet
  • Boost circulation (Manual Lymphatic Drainage)
  • Exercise: cardio and strengthen training

What exercise is better to get rid of cellulite?

The key here is to mix things up. Try not to obsess about one particular exercise or type of exercise. Including variety in your routine will help you to maintain the interest in your programme and look after your body’s different needs.

In order to help you get rid of cellulite, try combining a mix of cardio, resistance training, and  yoga.

Resistance training will have the biggest impact on skin tone and connective tissue strength.

Cardio. You should try interval training. It focuses on varying the intensity of your activity which is a great way to burn body fat.

Yoga will help with muscle tone and circulation.

When doing resistance exercises, there are 4 particular exercises that I would encourage you to include in your routine. These are:

Squats

  1. Stand with your feet, shoulder-width apart, with your arms at your sides or in front of you.
  2. Begin to squat down (pretend you’re sitting back in a chair) and then return to the starting position.
  3. Complete 3 sets of 10-15 reps.

Lunges

  1. Standing 1-2 feet from a bench.
  2. Use your right foot, step up onto the bench, pushing through your heel. When your right foot reaches the bench, drive your left knee toward the sky.
  3. Lower your left leg down, stepping backwards off the bench to the starting position.
  4. Repeat with your left leg.
  5. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps with both legs.

Side-squats with a dynaband

  1. Stand both feet on the dynaband, hip width apart, and hold handles next to your hip bones.
  2. Take a big step right and sit back into a squat, then bring your left foot to right foot as you stand.
  3. Next, take a big step left and sit back into a squat, then bring your right foot to left foot as you stand.
  4. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps with both legs.

Pretzel lifts

  1. Start in a seated position. Bend both knees and put one leg in front of you, in line with your hips, and one leg behind you at a 45-degree angle. Rest one arm on the mat and the other on your front ankle. Your body should lean slightly forward, with your back staying long.
  2. Lift your back leg up in tiny movements, making sure your original body positioning stays the same.
  3. Lower your leg back down to the mat.
  4. Lift your leg again, then repeat the small pulsing movement.
  5. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps with both legs.

As a final tip, and if you are feeling brave, try taking a hot/cold shower. It’s a quick and easy way to boost circulation (but it doesn’t mean you can skip the gym!)

We hope this information is useful for you. If you have any questions about our treatments, please contact us. You can find us in Mill Hill Broadway and Islington. If you like this blog, please share!

Tips to treat cellulite at home

Women get more cellulite than men,  due to the different fat, muscle, and connective tissue distribution. Almost 90% of women have it at some point in their life and it can be developed after puberty due to the change in hormones.  Contrary to what most people think, cellulite  happens to women of all shapes and sizes and there are multiple ways to properly do some cellulite reduction.

How is cellulite formed?

Our body has fibrous connective bands that tie up our skin to the underlying muscle. Fat cells and toxins can accumulate and lie between them. So as the accumulation of fat cells and toxins increases, they push the connective bands down, causing an uneven surface or dimpling (cellulite) appearance on the surface of the skin. This is something we tend to see on tights, hips, buttocks, arms or belly.

How to eliminate cellulite

What are the causes of cellulite?

There  are different factors that could influence the appearance of cellulite such as:

  • Ageing, when the skin loses elasticity (collagen).
  • Weight gain or weight fluctuation can make cellulite more noticeable.
  • Genetics might play the biggest role in whether you develop cellulite or not.
  • Lifestyle inactivity increases your chances of having cellulite.
  • Pregnancy
  • High oestrogen levels.
  • Thinning skin in the epidermis (outer layer), which can cause deeper fatty tissues to become more prominent.
  • Increased inflammation or poor circulation in the body

 How bad is my cellulite?

The appearance of your cellulite can be graded. There are three grades of cellulite appearance:

  • Grade 1 or mild: You have smooth skin while lying down and standing up.
  • Grade 2 or moderate: You have smooth skin while lying down, but some dimpling appears while standing.
  • Grade 3 or severe: Dimpling appears while you are standing and lying down.

How can I reduce my cellulite at home?

Unfortunately, there isn’t a magic formula to get rid of cellulite. There are treatments you can do or products you can use to help improve cellulite appearance. The changes don’t happen overnight.

Therefore, you need to be consistent and consistency  is the key to see results. If you use products you need to massage the affected area for at least 5 mins or until the skin starts looking pink, to activate the circulation and to allow the product to be absorbed.

The massages should be performed with firm, strong and fast movements and it needs to be done daily for the first two weeks.  If you find the techniques tiring you can look for a professional anti- cellulite massage to help you with the problem. Also, you need to combine the massages with exercise, diet and changes in lifestyle.

Exercise:

For better outcomes, you should combine aerobic exercise and strength training. These will help you burn body fat and gain muscle tone. In a muscular body the skin looks and feels smoother and firmer.

Change your lifestyle:

Healthy habits and a balanced diet will lead you to better health, maintaining your weight and reducing cellulite.

  • Increase your fiber intake
  • Reduce processed and high-sugar foods, they lead to the accumulation of toxins and fat in your body.
  • Increased water intake, dehydration can make cellulite more noticeable. (8 glasses per day is ok)
  • Avoid drinking and smoking, the accumulation of toxins increases cellulite.

Dry brushing. It helps you to exfoliate dead cells from the surface of the skin and enhances lymphatic drainage and circulation.

Things  you have to consider:

  • Use a natural-bristle brush.
  • Dry-brush your body daily for at least 3 minutes.
  • Apply enough pressure to stimulate circulation, but not so much to irritate the skin.
  • Do  circular movements in the direction towards the heart.

Next week we will give you more tips to reduce cellulite at home.

Anti-cellulite massages and lymphatic drainage are great to reduce the appearance of cellulite. We will be waiting for you after lockdown to help you with our tailor made treatments to treat your conditions. For more information, please contact us. We are happy to help. Eating to reduce cellulite

In the first part of How to Get Rid of Cellulite we looked at some of the causes of cellulite. We also looked at the impact that hormones play. We also mentioned beetroot and beetroot juice in relation to the positive effect it has on the body’s circulation. This led me to investigate other foods and their impact on cellulite. And I discovered many ways in which your eating can help you reduce cellulite.

Eating to Reduce Cellulite – What to include

The build-up of toxins in the body, as well as an accumulation of water retention, may worsen the look of cellulite on your body. Obviously, foods that you can eat that help combat that is going to be advantageous.

It is believed that a bad diet pollutes the body causing fatty, toxin and water deposits. A healthy (or at least healthier) diet can help to restore the body’s eco-system. There are many foods that can help you do that, but here are some of the most effective that has yet been discovered.

Green Tea is now well regarded for its all-around health properties. It is particularly useful for helping to combat cellulite for two main reasons. First, it is believed to speed up metabolism; and second, it helps to inhibit fat absorption.

The evidence regarding green tea is not just an old wive’s tale. According to Wikipedia, “a 2013 Cochrane review ……. concluded that green tea consumption lowers total and LDL cholesterol concentrations in the blood.” Clearly, this will have benefits in getting rid of cellulite.

Broccoli is another great food to include in your diet to reduce cellulite. The alpha lipoic that is found in broccoli helps to slow the hardening of collagen.

If you eat asparagus it is useful because it can help combat inflammation. It plays a role in helping to reduce bloating and water retention.

Other foods that are worth eating to reduce cellulite include oily fish such as mackerel and salmon. The naturally healthy fatty acids in these f bad fats. Finally, anything that is rich in vitamin C can only be beneficial. These foods help because they boost collagen in the skin and work to keep it more elastic.

Eating to get rid of cellulite – What to avoid

In particular, it is important to avoid or reduce the intake of refined carbohydrates, especially white bread and white rice. Refined carbohydrates, as nice as they might taste, have a tendency to inhibit the body’s ability to get rid of toxins.

In addition, and for the same reason, it is advisable to limit the intake of caffeine, alcohol, and nicotine. And as if that were not enough to put a stop to most of your fun, it is also advisable to cut out, or vastly reduce, your consumption of dairy and wheat products.

Finally, if you would like some extra help to assist in cellulite reduction, you can book here for a treatment. You can find me in Mill Hill Broadway and Islington.

Lymphatic drainage for cellulite

Using a technique known as manual lymphatic drainage (mdl) for reducing cellulite is becoming ever more popular. In fact, in countries such as France, it has become many women’s hidden secret. It is has grown in popularity rapidly over the channel but is only slowly building up a popular following on this side on the pond.

So …..

What is it that these French ladies know, that we need to know?

Lymphatic drainage for cellulite 2

Lymphatic drainage for cellulite

Why use lymphatic drainage for reducing cellulite?

Let’s face it, we now know that the right kind of diet and regular exercise can help in the battle for reducing cellulite. Of course, both give an added boost to circulation. But isn’t it nice to have someone else expend the energy sometimes?

The truth is most of us are more sedentary than we would like to be. And even if you are a bit of an exercise junkie, the chances are you still spend a large proportion of your time sitting at a desk. This inactivity can cause blockages in the lymph system.

So wouldn’t it be nice if you could just lie down and let somebody else stimulate your circulation for you? Well, now you can. And that is what these canny French Ladies know. It’s through a clever massage technique known as Manual Lymphatic Drainage.

Lymphatic Drainage Massage (LDM) can help to combat the results of inactivity. It helps to re-stimulate blood flow and circulation which in turn helps to remove toxins and stagnant fluids from tissues.

It relies on slow, rhythmic and repetitive movements that can be very soothing for the mind and body. But for the LDM to be successful you really need to be in the hands of a skilled practitioner.

It’s a difficult procedure for the masseuse to master, it’s as much as an art as a skill, and therefore experience level of the practitioner will definitely have an impact on its effectiveness.

Although it has now become a recognised massage, good lymph drainage practice is still quite rare in the UK. That’s a shame because, in addition to helping with reducing cellulite, it has added health benefits.

In fact, lymph massage has even been used to help tackle fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue syndrome. It’s gentle, and therefore unlike deep tissue massage is tolerable for a much wider group of people with various conditions.

But you don’t need to have a medical condition to feel the benefits. This gentle form of bodywork can help restore immune function and improve vitality, and most of all can certainly help reduce the unsightly look of cellulite.

If you are in the London area and are intrigued to find about this innovative form of treatment, please feel free to book in for an exploratory session. You can find me in Mill Hill Broadway and Islington.

The best 5 tips to combat cellulite at home!

Cellulite is something that many women have to deal with. It’s also a fact that some of us are unhappy with it and want to figure out how to get rid of it without overhauling our lives or breaking the bank.

You can find thousands of products in the market that claim to get rid of cellulite, but the truth is, there is no magic trick to cellulite disappear. Wherever tips you decide to follow, you need to combine it with exercise, water intake, diet and healthy lifestyle. Remember that you need to be persistent if you want to achieve results.

During lockdown you can prepare homemade remedies to reduce the appearance of cellulite. They will give you all the benefits of their natural ingredients for less money.

the best 5 tips to combat cellulite

Tip one to reduce cellulite:

Make your own cream with coffee ground

Caffeine has a lot of nutritional characteristics that help your skin look better. It improves blood flow and dehydrates fat cells producing a better appearance of your skin.

Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup of coffee grounds,
  • ¾ cup of olive oil
  • 1 ½ cup of sugar.

Mix all the ingredients until you form a paste. Apply the cream in the wanted area using circular movement, until the skin turns pink . Stop if the skin becomes sensitive.

Tip Two to reduce cellulite:

Massage the area daily

You should perform this massage with firm and strong movements. You can include techniques such as pounding, circular motions and kneading (Pinch and press the skin strongly with both hands as you were kneading bread, then alternate with circular motion).

Remember that all motions should be made towards the heart, from down upwards. Massage the area for 5 minutes every day for 2 weeks, then you can do it 3 times per week.

For best results on  your  buttock area apply circular movements (clockwise) starting from the hip and moving towards the thigh.

Tip three to reduce cellulite:

Apply  Cupping technique

  • For this technique you will need a silicone cup (you can buy them at amazon.com)
  •  Apply a lot of oil on the area.
  • Then, place your cup and gently squeeze the base to create a vacuum, and move it with circular motions.
  • Don’t keep the cup in one place, in order to avoid bruises.
  • Take your time to figure out how much to squeeze the cup to get the tension you need. If you feel pain, just squeeze it lighter.
  • When your skin becomes red and warm without feeling any strong pain this means you are doing a good massage.
  • If you have spider veins don’t place the cup in that area because they can get even worse.

Tip four to reduce cellulite:

Do regular skin brushing

Dry brushing,  helps you to exfoliate dead cells from the surface of the skin and enhances lymphatic drainage and circulation

Things  you have to consider:

  • Use a natural-bristle brush.
  • Dry-brush your body daily for at least 3 minutes.
  • Apply enough pressure to stimulate circulation, but not so much to irritate the skin.
  • Do  circular movements in the direction towards the heart.

Tip five to reduce cellulite:

Drink Healthy Juices and plenty of water

Experts at Mayo Clinic think that drinking natural juices can repair damaged tissues and increase elasticity in your skin; that’s why we want to share some recipes with you.

Cucumber juice

  • Cucumber (1)
  • Bunch of celery (1)
  • Ginger knob (1)
  • Lemon or grapefruit (1)
  • Cup of parsley (1)

Pineapple and celery

  • 2 grapefruits
  • 1 big slice of pineapple
  • 2 celery sticks

Add all ingredients in a vegetable juicer. Gently mix them all and consume immediately. Advice on buying a green juicer can be found at juicebuff.com.

Reducing cellulite is a full- time job. Creams, juices, and also pharmaceutical products give you a temporary relief. That’s why you need to combine the use or intake of these products with a healthy diet and exercise. Remember that massages and lymphatic drainage are great to help you reduce cellulite. They increase blood flow, reduce excess fluids and toxins.  Here at the clinic we have the best professionals and treatments to help you with your conditions. You can contact us here.

Let´s go deeper in this topic.

Exercise and cellulite into perspective

First, let’s remember that there is no magic bullet for overcoming cellulite. No, you can’t miraculously spot reduce. And, unfortunately, exercise is not the final answer to the problem.

Remember, it is the fat deposits under the skin that give cellulite its distinctive look. The good news is that exercise can go a long way in reducing the unsightly appearance of cellulite. Not only because it can help to firm the muscle under the skin, but more vitally, because it has a key role in boosting circulation.

However, exercise does have an important role in reducing cellulite and also in helping to manage the unsightly appearance. Take into account that for best results exercise should be part of a complete routine to get rid of cellulite. Some of the most important factors in the routine are:

  • Nutrition: have a healthy diet
  • Boost circulation (Manual Lymphatic Drainage)
  • Exercise: cardio and strengthen training

What exercise is better to get rid of cellulite?

The key here is to mix things up. Try not to obsess about one particular exercise or type of exercise. Including variety in the type of exercise you do will help you to maintain the interest in your programme and look after the body’s different needs.

In order to help you get rid of cellulite, try combining a mix of cardio, resistance training, and if you can, yoga.

These are:

Squats

  1. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and your arms at your sides.
  2. Begin to squat down (pretend you’re sitting back in a chair) place your arms in front of you or at your sides.

  1. Stand both feet on the dynaband hip width apart and hold handles next to hip bones.
  2. Take a big step right and sit back into a squat, then bring left foot to right foot as you stand.
  3. Then, take a big step left and sit back into a squat, then bring right foot to left foot as you stand.
  4. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps with both legs.

Pretzel lifts

  1. Start in a seated position. Bend both knees and put one leg in front of you, in line with the hip, and one leg behind you at a 45-degree angle.

We are always happy to help.

How to get rid of cellulite

How to Get rid of cellulite becomes a matter of increasing concern at this time of year. The days are getting longer, the sun is shining (occasionally), and the winter clothes are now confidently stored away. The downside of the summer wardrobe is the increased exposure to bare skin.

As unfair as it may seem, the curse of cellulite is almost exclusively a female phenomenon. As you will discover, it has a lot to do with how fat is distributed in the body, but more importantly the nature of connective tissue.

How to get rid of cellulite- first you’ve got to understand it

Cellulite and that annoying orange peel effect is not just something that affects older or larger women. It can affect younger skinny women too (even those in their teens). In fact, it affects the vast majority of women at some point, estimates say about 90% will notice cellulite somewhere on their body.

It can’t just be shrugged off as genetic, however. Research has shown that it is far more prominent in western industrialised countries, so there seem to be lifestyle attributes at play here.

One of the single biggest influencing factors is hormonal changes. This is especially so as women move toward the menopause. It’s a time, typically between the ages of 25 to 35 when estrogen levels slowly decrease.

A drop in the levels of estrogen can affect circulation and the health of the blood vessels. A decrease in the delivery of oxygen and nutrients (carried by the blood) has a detrimental effect on the collagen

The structure of collagen is different in men and women, and that is partly why cellulite is more visible on women.

The icing on the cake?! (if you’ll excuse the pun) is that the difference in structure is largely responsible for the unsightly look of cellulite.

How to get rid of cellulite-What to do

Many people promise the elixir for the problem, but few of them deliver. I think it important to have perspective.

It may not be possible to eradicate cellulite completely, but it is possible to manage it and improve physical appearance.

The fundamental keys are unsurprising to eat well and to exercise.

Although fat is not the whole problem where cellulite is concerned, reducing bad fats and introducing more good fats into the diet will certainly be beneficial. Another thing to consider as far as diet is concerned is to start to introduce more beetroot into your diet.

Beetroot juice has been proven by science to help with circulation. This will help to supply oxygen and nutrients to the collagen.

As we have mentioned, the problem is more widespread in western nations.

This discrepancy has to do with the differences in activity levels. It also relates to how other cultures tend to eat a lot more organic produce than the industrialised west.

Therefore increased exercise, or at the very least increased movement, will help you. Not so much from the point of view of reducing fat, but more from the point of view of stimulating circulation – both of the cardiovascular system and of the lymphatic system

As an additional boost to the lymphatic system, you may also want to try our lymphatic drainage. Whilst additional movement and exercise will help boost the lymphatic system, massage for lymphatic drainage will certainly accelerate the process (and the results) and has proved to be a very popular treatment.

A surprising fact

The clothes you wear can have an influence too. Clothes such as tight jeans, or even underwear that is too tight can restrict circulation. Especially around the middle of the body, and if it leaves marks when the items are removed, you could be restricting the flow of oxygen to the connective tissue and other cells.

So as a final tip – wear loose fitting clothing whenever appropriate and let your body breathe.
