Manual Lymph Drainage Massage (MLD) helps to move the fluid by gently pumping it back into the lymph vessels, reducing the swelling, retention of fluids and pain after the surgery. Without MLD, the inflammation can evolve into fibrosis (a permanent hardening of the tissue) or a seroma (pocket of serum). What is lymphatic massage like?
Manual lymphatic drainage involves very gentle pumping movements like massage, to remove the excess of fluid from the treated area. The treatment should be gently and smooth but sometimes you could feel a bit of discomfort if the area is too sensitive after the surgery.
Before your treatment starts you need to complete your medical form followed by the initial consultation where you therapist will assess the type of surgery and stage of the surgery, any open drainages, bruises, inflammation to determinate the best way to perform the drainage.
